West China Hospital and West China Second Hospital, affiliated to the West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University.
The West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University is founded in 1913 and named as the Medical College, West China Union University. At present it consists of 5 Divisions: the Clinical Medicine, the Laboratory Medicine, the Higher Nursing Education, the Maternity and Child Hygiene, and Allied Health Professions. There are more than 1500 students for bachelor degree and over 1500 students for Master or Doctorate degree. There are 165 foreign students to study medicine in the school. The school enjoys a very high reputation for its high quality of education and long history of medical schooling education. It has been regarded as one of the top 5 medical schools in the country for more than half century.

The West China hospital is one of the top and largest hospital in the country, with 4000 beds and more than 2 million out patients annually. There are 80,000 hospitalized patients and 40,000 surgical operations annually. The West China Second Hospital is a maternal and Children hospital, with 600 beds. Both of the hospitals have a large group of professors and attending physicians. They are responsible for the clinical teaching for the school.

Medical Service

There are 4000 beds, 34 clinical departments, 13 medical technology departments in West China Hospital of Sichuan University . The present staff number over 4000, among whom, there are over 400 professors and associate professors. With the purpose of doing good care and excellent service for the patients, the hospital sets up the Senior Experts Consulting Center , 200 special clinics and walk-in clinic without rest at weekend and noon. In order to meet the several needs of public, the hospital also sets up Community Health Center , Medical Center for Tibet public and Golden Card Hospital.

Patient-oriented Medical excellence

WCH is one of the largest hospitals in Mainland China, and the diagnostic and treatment center for complicated and severe cases in the south-west region. At present, the hospital has 3,460 beds, with an occupancy rate of up to 120%. By year 2006, the number of beds will reach 4,260. With 34 clinical and 13 non-clinical departments, there are more than 600 medical specialists serving the hospital, among them about 300 professors. SICHUAN PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)

Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine University Affiliated Hospital (Sichuan Provincial Hospital of TCM), graded as Class III A Level, is an integrated and national demonstrated hospital of TCM, the clinic pharmacological base approved by Ministry of Health and the GCP construction unit of state drug (TCM) clinical laboratory and research center. It is a center well known for medical treatment, education and scientific research in southwest China.
The hospital was established in 1957, with ground area of 80,000sq.m and total floor area of 120,000sq.m. The standard operating rooms covers an area of 1,210sq.m. There are 9 operating rooms and 642 beds in the hospital affiliated with one normal TCM professional secondary school of provincial level.

The hospital boasts a number of renowned doctors and sound technological power. There are 1,081 staffs totally, including 912 professional doctors, nurses and technicians, 199 medical technicians with sub-senior professional titles, 383 medical technicians with intermediate professional titles. In the hospital, 28 experts with outstanding contributions to clinic and research are entitled to the special allowance provided by State Council. There are 29 provincial renowned TCM doctors.

Persisting in modernization of TCM, the hospital puts emphasis on exerting the specialties and superiorities of TCM and resolutely pays equal attention to Chinese and Western medicines. Talents Training

Acupuncture school of Chengdu TCM University Affiliated Hospital is a provincial secondary school with students over 500 and provides junior doctors and nurses for TCM hospitals in Sichuan. As an affiliated hospital to university, the hospital undertakes the task to educate college students, undergraduates, postgraduates, doctorate graduates. There are 7 master degree programs, 4 doctorate degree programs, 19 doctorate student supervisors and 59 postgraduate supervisors. The university enrolls more than 50 postgraduates and 17 doctorate graduates each year and over 300 students undergo clinical practice in the hospital.

Clinical Research

The hospital attaches great importance to clinical research. Thus it results in various laboratories for nephropathy, pharmacology, Theory of Zhang Zhongjing, ophthalmology, pediatrics, TCM emergencies, blood disease, clinic pharmacology, TCM medical care, TCM pharmaceutical, andrology, ENT, cardiovascular disease and so on. A powerful research team has been set up in the hospital and responsible for the 186 research programs assigned by state departments at all levels. Over 90 research outcomes have been awarded by the State Science and Technology Commission, Ministry of Health, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sichuan Provincial Committee of Science and Technology. Great attention has been paid to the development of new drugs. The hospital is the clinic pharmacological base approved by Ministry of Health, the national TCM clinical testing center (Chengdu), one of the four great TCM clinical testing center in China, and one of the seven great new drugs research and development centers of national TCM modern technological industry base (Sichuan), whilst it is the Sichuan Provincial Center for TCM ADR Supervision approved by the State Drug Administration and Drug Administration of Sichuan Province. The medicament department of the hospital stocks 560 sorts of TCM herbal drinks and tablets, over 80 Chinese traditional patent medicines, and about 200 varieties (22 types) self-produced medicines for clinical application. Some of the self-produced medicines are welcomed by patients and enjoys the reputation as the “trusted product”. During the SARS, Fengwen I and Fengwen II medicine played a positive role in prevention from SARS.

Foreign Exchange

The work for foreign exchange has been developed rapidly in recent years. The hospital has built up friendship with Hiroshima Hospital of Japan and students are sent out by both hospitals for mutual study. Long term cooperative relationship has been set up between the hospital and US International TCM College, etc. In addition, the hospital has foreign students from Japan, USA, German, Israel, Canada, Britain, France, Sweden and etc. Professional staffs are sent out to Japan, Malaysia, UAE, Tanzania, Sao Tom, South Africa for medical treatment support. Experts go overseas for lecturing or academic exchange and many of them are engaged as visiting professor and advisor in foreign academic organization.

PEOPLE’S HOSPITAL OF SICHUAN PROVINCE

Established in 1941, People’s Hospital of Sichuan Province is the largest integrated hospital in Sichuan province, the clinical education base for medical colleges and universities in Sichuan, and network hospital of international emergency assistance center of Ministry of Health as well as national baby-cherish hospital. July 2002, with the approval of the People’s Government of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences and Sichuan People’s Hospital was formally integrated into People’s Hospital of Sichuan Province.
The hospital includes following four units: Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences Affiliated Hospital, Sichuan Dermatology & Venereal Disease Prevention and Cure Institute, Sichuan Laboratory Animal Research Institute of Academy of Medical Sciences, Sichuan No.3 People’s Hospital. It has Sichuan First-aid Center, Sichuan Eye Disease Prevention and Cure Center, Sichuan Clinical Laboratory, Sichuan Medical Equipment Maintenance Center and Zhengda Institute of Materia Medica as well as a professional nurse school. The hospital boasts five provincial key subjects-ophthalmology, laboratory, neurology, nephrology and ultrasound medicine. There are 2,450 staffs totally, 1,886 beds and medical treatment rooms with an area of 120,000sq.m in the hospital.
